Yellow Fever Centre and Vaccinator Approval Process

The authorisation of Yellow Fever Vaccination Centres and Yellow Fever Vaccinator is a responsibility devolved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to national health authorities under the International Health Regulations 2005.

It is the responsibility of the Medical Practitioner to submit the application for approval/ renewal and all associated evidence to the Medical Officer of Health no later than 6 weeks prior to expiry of current approval.

Yellow Fever Vaccinator Approval Process

 

Action Timeframe Responsibility Note
Medical Practitioner sends application for approval/ renewal to Medical Officer of Health. 6 weeks before current expiry date Medical Practitioner Ministry of Health Yellow Fever policy and application forms can be accessed on their website.
Medical Officer of Health reviews application, and if appropriate sends letter of recommendation for approval to the Ministry of Health. 4 weeks before current expiry date Medical Officer of Health Medical Practitioner is responsible for ensuring application is complete. Medical Officer of Health will liaise with the Medical Practitioner if further information is required.
Manager, Immunisation team, reviews application and signs approval letter. 3 weeks before current expiry date Manager, Immunisation team, Ministry of Health.  
Immunisation Programme Administrator, Ministry of Health, sends approval letter to Medical Practitioner, informs Medical Officer of Health and Health Care Logistics. 2 weeks before current expiry date Programme Administrator, Immunisation, Ministry of Health. Health Care Logistics release vaccine, Sanofi are the distributor.

Medical Officer of Health reviews application, and if appropriate grants approval in writing to the centre. A copy of the letter of approval is forwarded to the Ministry of Health. 3 weeks Medical Officer of Health Practice manager/ responsible person is responsible for ensuring application is complete. Medical Officer of Health will liaise with the applicant if further information is required
District Immunisation Facilitator completes cold chain accreditation (CCA) of Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre 3 yearly District Immunisation Facilitator If CCA expires during the term of Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre approval the centre must ensure a copy of the new CCA is forwarded to the Medical Officer of Health.
